Polar Shrimp: This pattern was developed on California's Eel River in 1936 by Clarence Shoff to fish for late season Steelhead. It continues to be one of the best late season/winter patterns along the Pacific Coast from California to Alaska. I caught my first Steelhead many years ago on a Polar Shrimp pattern and have continued to fish it ever since. This pattern does very well in the Midwest as well when fished with added weight to the leader. This pattern belongs in every Steelheader's fly box.
