Description
This fly imitates the spring hatch
of stoneflies here in western Oregon. A fairly large
bug up to 1 1/2" in length. Dark Brown segmented
body with Orange/Red separating the segments. Large
translucent wings. These are bank hatchers that
climb stream side vegetation and occasionally fall
back into the water. Tie the segmented body by
pinching the foam with your thumbnail and index
finger nail, make 3 or 4 tight wraps. Repeat for
each segment. Note: The foam body is made from
laminated (3M adhesive spray) orange closed cell
foam and Brown Hareline "Furry" foam glued together.
This pattern is "reversible". For the spring
stonefly hatch tie with the brown furry side down.
For the Fall October Caddis hatch, tie with the
orange closed cell foam down.
I love stoneflies. This looks like a great pattern
to fish. I use one called "The Thing from Uranus."
tied with two wings but essentailly the same
pattern. I like the crystal flash underwing, nice
touch. I have found that they actually do waterlog
but they seem to work as well in the surface film as
they do floating high. Nice pattern, thanks for
sharing!
